Hundreds of people now have clean, bacteria free water through the efforts of Kanab High School students and their successful Sub for Santa fundraiser. The monies raised helped purchase water purification products and temporary lighting for those in critical need.
Clean filtered water is of extreme importance during the recovery efforts in Puerto Rico. It is vital that residents are not exposed to waterborne diseases.
The following was forwarded to us from Steve Broadbent. Steve was a “shoes on the ground” volunteer worker that distributed the filters in outlying areas to people that were denied assistance from other sources.
There were 39 volunteers in our group on this trip to Puerto Rico. During our stay we were able to hand out more than 300 water filters and 100 LED torch lights. We also supplied an additional 300 lights to local missionaries for distribution to those in need.
The below picture is of an elderly couple living, in what is left of their home, in the devastated neighborhood in Canovanas.
As we handed out the water filters and torches to residents, we suggested that the filters would best serve the neighborhood if shared with others. We also assisted in setting up a central water filter location where anyone could come get clean water.
Thank you, Kanab High School students, for helping to help make all of this possible.
We had so many amazing experiences on this last trip and the people of this neighborhood were extremely grateful
